Moving Day! We moved our candle store to its present location

About Us

when Bob and Cindy took three rookies and taught us how to make really great candles.

It was a sad day at the end of December when we closed the door to our Mall Corners store for the last time. We've made many very dear friends in the Duluth area over the past seven years and we hated to leave a part of the city we had come to know so well.

The decision to move to a new part of Atlanta was not an easy one. In the retail business being in the right location is critical and the truth is our old location was simply no longer the best place for us like it was when the company was founded years ago. Not only had some of our favorite retailer neighbors moved to new communities, so had we. (In fact, most days it took Carol almost an hour to commute to work).  When we considered the business issues along with our desire to balance our work and personal lives, it became clear that the time had come to find a new home for our company.

After a search spanning several months we found our new home in Main Street Shopping Center at Town Center (map) in the Atlanta suburb of Kennesaw. It was exciting to plan the design for our new place and we had the chance to incorporate some of the ideas we'd had over the years--such as gorgeous hardwood floors throughout and an open view of the production area so customers can watch their favorite candles being made. Our new store has a look that is modern and interesting and we like to think a bit elegant as well.

About that name change:  Actually our legal name has been Savannah Wax Works since 2003 when we bought the company from its original founders Bob and Cindy Marn. We continued using the name Candles Poured and More because our Duluth customers were familiar with it, but with the move to Kennesaw the time was right to start flying under our own banner. We developed an elegant new look for our brand and our store that we believe does justice to the great candles marketed under our label. Of course what we didn't change was what goes under the label--we are still as picky as ever and still use the same premium quality ingredients that make our candles so very special.  New look, new location, same great candles.

We hope our friends--both old and new--enjoy the changes we've made. Please come visit us soon.

Atlanta's Favorite Candles are now on eBay!

We've been selling our great hand-crafted candles in our retail store and on our website since 1998 but for some reason we never got around to looking into eBay. (Actually, we did have a reason--simple procrastination).

Since two of us are techies who are as comfortable setting up a website as we are  putting on a bathrobe, we had no good excuse for putting it off any longer.  It was time to put a little thought into the subject of eBay. Finally (and after being asked a thousand times why we weren't on eBay) we gave it some thought and decided, "why not?"

Our eBay store is set to open in Summer, 2006 and will showcase our entire line of scented candles and fragrance oils but will also offer items previously available only in our retail store--distinctive tart warmers, candle accessories, those hard-to-find Danish Tapers, and other things we believe you'll enjoy. (You know how much we love to shop for new and unusual things we think every candle addict should possess).

We hope to meet many new friends through this new venture and promise to keep providing the same focus on premium quality, attentive personal service, and fast shipping that you have come to expect over the years.

Questions about eBay:

Q.  Can I still order from this website? Of course! Our online ordering, shopping cart, and shipping practices will remain unchanged. The only difference between this site and our eBay store is that on eBay we offer the option of using PayPal which might be a more reassuring payment method for new customers who are not yet comfortable with a particular merchant.

Q. Are the candles on eBay the same quality as what you sell on this site and in your store? Absolutely. We will not cut corners on the products sold on eBay. No  matter which website you use, rest assured that you are buying the same great candles handmade by the same picky people.

Q.  Will your eBay store offer the option of pouring candles into containers I ship to you like this site does? For now, no. Custom pouring is a little hard to fit into eBay's format so for the time being it's a service offered via this website and in our retail store.

How it All Began

It all began several years ago when Bob and Cindy visited a candle company owned by friends in another city and decided on the spot that making candles was what they wanted to do.  After a couple of years of research, learning, and planning they sold another company that they'd owned for nearly thirteen years and opened Candles Poured & More. The candles they made were of such outstanding quality that they became an instant hit with candle lovers in the Atlanta area.

In 2003 they announced they were thinking about selling the company and their customers' first reaction was a panicked "how will I get these great candles if you aren't here?"

Susan, Carol and David had much the same reaction.  Long time friends (even buying houses in the same subdivision) they had been Bob & Cindy's customers for years, and just like everyone else who ever tried their candles, were devoted fans. At dinner one evening they were discussing Bob and Cindy's announcement, and what followed was the first of many conversations that eventually led to the three of them to approaching Bob and Cindy. The rest, as they say, is history.

Making the leap into the candle industry was an exciting adventure for all of us. The reception for "the new kids on the block" was just amazing!  Our wonderful customers gave us plenty of encouragement and support as we settled into our new jobs.

Meanwhile Bob and Cindy took a much anticipated extended vacation, but since they have "wax in the blood", they couldn't stay away forever (although Bob reports he had a hard time coaxing Cindy out of the beachfront condo). Bob and Cindy are dear friends, coaches, mentors, consultants, and counselors; Bob still provides 100% of our minimum daily requirements for corny jokes.

When people ask us if making candles is really as much fun as it sounds, we are quick to answer with a heartfelt "yes!".

Our Philosophy on How to Succeed in the Candle Business

We share a common belief that anything that goes under our label should make us proud of what we do for a living. In an industry where pinching pennies is commonplace, we simply refuse to reduce the quality of our product by choosing cheaper ingredients or production methods.

The blend of ingredients in our secret formula are some of the most expensive on the market but nothing we've ever tested has come close to achieving the same long, clean burn that our candles are known for. Even though there are cheaper choices of waxes, we stick to using only the very best.

The fragrance oils we use are also some of the most expensive in the industry--we use only top quality, commercial-grade oils that have been specially formulated to give a nice big "scent throw" and clean burn. And we use generous portions of fragrance oils so our candles always have the wonderful scent they're famous for.

We never, ever "spike" our candles like some manufacturers do (spiking is when the manufacturer adds extra fragrance oil to the top of the candle so it smells great in the store but it quickly loses its scent after you've burned it a little while).  Every one of our candles smells just as great at the bottom as it does on the top because we mix and pour every single batch by hand to make sure the fragrance oil is mixed evenly throughout. It's hard work but it's the best way to make a great candle.

Finally, because we insist on making our candles in small batches we don't need to add extra ingredients to extend their shelf life. Everything in our special formula is there solely to make the candle perform well for you, not to increase our bottom line.

All our attention to quality makes some people call us picky, but we don't care. All we care about is what our customers say and they tell us there is no other candle that compares to ours. Read what our customers say about our candles

We sincerely hope you enjoy using our candles
as much as we enjoy making them for you.
